Winnie the Pooh made his first appearance in 1924.
This appearance may never have happened had it not been for a zoo visit in 1902.
A visit where a seamstress’s nephew drew a picture that would become the basis for the world’s first teddy bear. That seamstress was Margarete Steiff.
For whatever reason, this Winnie the Pooh thought popped into my head while listening to this podcast episode today.
(Yes, like many things, there appears to be simultaneous invention with teddy bears too.)
